Department of Civil Engineering & Architecture
We are now in the midst of a great undertaking to improve Japan's infrastructure. Large-scale bridges, expressways, high buildings and offshore airports have been constructed. Modern technology of civil engineering and architecture is indispensable for the completion of these projects.
Our department provides the students with an excellent educational program and state-of-the-art facilities for experiments to prepare them to work in the field of civil engineering and architecture.
The students learn fundamental principles and modern technology of civil engineering and architecture through the program. Our curriculum requires the students to perform a wide variety of experiments and draw various types of drafts so that they can achieve a firm grasp of theories, principles and methods regarding current civil engineering and architecture.
We also teach the students how to use computers and computer programs. Then we train them to be able to apply their knowledge of information technology to civil engineering and architecture. In addition, several other courses such as environmental protection and construction technology that have become increasingly important for engineers are offered.
The students are asked to acquire basic knowledge of civil engineering and architecture for the first three years at our department. Then they select either the civil engineering course or the architecture course. A lot of elective technical subjects are provided for the forth- and fifth-year students. These elective subjects are advanced and they all pertain to specific areas of civil engineering or architecture. The students can take some of them according to their research interest.
